China | Cultural Experiences

Understanding how China operates in practice requires more than company visits. Time spent in neighbourhoods, public spaces, and everyday environments helps explain how people communicate, make decisions, and interact across different settings.

These cultural experiences form part of the wider China programme, running alongside company visits and immersive elements. They provide context for what the groups see in business environments, helping connect innovation, scale, and rapid development with long-standing cultural patterns that continue to shape how the country functions today.

Shanghai: East meets West

  • Financial Centre
A view across Shanghai’s financial districts, ending at the Shanghai Tower observation deck located on the 118th floor, where the full scale and density of the city becomes clear.

  • Yu Garden and surrounding markets
Step into a quieter side of the city, where traditional architecture sits alongside busy market streets. It’s a place where older ways of life still shape how people shop, interact, and move through the city.

  • Street markets and neighbourhoods
Spend time in everyday environments where the pace is fast, and interactions are direct. These areas give a clearer sense of how pricing, negotiation, and consumer behaviour play out in real time.

  • Huangpu River Cruise
A cruise along the Huangpu River offers some of the clearest views of the city, with historic buildings on one side and the modern skyline on the other, bringing Shanghai’s scale and contrast into full view.

  • Kung Fu Workshop
A practical session focused on balance, control, and discipline, offering insight into the role of structure and repetition in traditional practice.

Hong Kong: movement, exchange, structure

  • Victoria Harbour and Central
Spend time in one of the world’s leading financial districts, where global institutions operate side by side. It offers a clear sense of how international business is structured and how Hong Kong connects markets across regions.

  • Victoria Peak (Peak Tram)
Travel up to Victoria Peak by tram for panoramic views across the skyline and harbour. Opened in 1888, it was the first funicular railway in Asia, and it remains one of the most direct ways to take in the city from above.

  • Local Markets & Street Food
Explore Sino Centre, known for its focus on anime, manga, and K-pop culture, alongside nearby street food stalls. Together, they reflect how trends, subcultures, and everyday consumption shape the city’s retail landscape.

  • Temple Visit
Visit one of the largest seated bronze Buddhas in the world, set within a quieter landscape away from the main commercial areas. It offers a different pace and shows how tradition and belief remain part of daily life.

Beijing: structure, heritage, continuity

  • Forbidden City
Walk through the former imperial palace to get a sense of how space, hierarchy, and order were organised, and how that thinking still shapes the country today.

  • Hutong neighbourhood and home experience
Spend time in one of Beijing’s traditional neighbourhoods, stepping into a more local setting. Take part in a dumpling-making session with residents and try traditional paper-cutting, a craft passed down for generations. Walking through the narrow streets and sharing a meal offers a closer look at daily life, community structure, and how people interact.

  • Great Wall
Travel outside the city to visit the Great Wall, set across mountain ridges. It gives a clear sense of the scale and long-term planning behind projects that were built to last.

These experiences can be tailored to the group’s focus, complementing company visits and immersive elements throughout the programme.
